What we check when we value a Hilux

This is what we look at on every Hilux, and what's worth telling us, so your offer is right first time.

Chassis

Chassis rails and spring hangers

Ladder-frame pickups live on their chassis. On older Hiluxes we look at the rails, the rear spring hangers, the outriggers and the area around the fuel tank. Tell us if anything has been welded, plated or treated, and send a few clear photos underneath. Corrosion doesn't stop us buying, it simply helps us get the figure right.

Engine

Engine, injectors and DPF

Each Hilux engine has its own story. Earlier D-4D engines are known for injector wear, and later diesels with a particulate filter can block up if the truck only does short trips. Tell us about any warning lights, smoke, rough running or recent injector, turbo or DPF work. A Hilux with a fault is still worth selling.

Cab & spec

Cab style and trim level

The cab and trim make a big difference to who the next owner will be. A single-cab Active might go to a farm or a fleet, a double-cab Invincible X to a family or a business owner. Tell us the exact trim and any options, such as leather, navigation, a rear camera or the automatic gearbox.

Load bed

Load bed, canopy and tow pack

Most Hiluxes have carried something heavy. A dented bed is normal, so just tell us what has been fitted: a hard top or canopy, a roller shutter, a bed liner, a load-bed rack or a tow bar with electrics. Kit like this adds to the value for the next owner.

Work

How it has been used

Hiluxes are bought to work. Towing plant trailers, horseboxes or livestock trailers puts wear on the clutch and rear springs, and farm or off-road use shows on the underside. Tell us what the truck has done and we will value it with that in mind, rather than marking it down for being used.

History

Service history and paperwork

Regular servicing is what makes a Hilux go on forever, so a stamped book or folder of invoices helps. Mention big recent jobs like a clutch, timing belt, injectors, springs or tyres. Missing history doesn't stop a sale; we just price on what we can see.

Your checklist

  • The V5C registration document in your name
  • Photo ID: passport or driving licence
  • All keys, including the spare and any locking wheel nut key
  • Service book and invoices, especially for injectors, clutch and DPF work
  • Keys for the hard top or canopy, if fitted
  • If there is finance: the settlement figure from your lender

This page explains what we look at when we value a Hilux. It isn't a price guide: every truck is valued individually, free and without obligation.

Hilux valuation FAQs

Should I clean the truck before you see it?

There's no need. Clear out your tools and personal things, but a working Hilux is expected to look like one.

My Hilux has a DPF warning light. Will you still buy it?

Yes. Tell us what the dash is showing and whether any work has been done. We buy Hiluxes with DPF, injector and turbo faults.

Do you need the service history?

It helps but isn't essential. We'll value the Hilux on its condition either way.

Can you collect a Hilux that won't start?

Yes. Non-runners are collected free on a recovery truck anywhere in the UK.

Will you give me a price over the phone?

We'll give you a firm offer once we have the registration, mileage and a few photos. Every Hilux is different, so we don't publish prices.
